El’e Ferrer |
Known for her soulful rhythm and blues style, her musical roots have an incredible history. She is the daughter of an African American mother and Puerto Rican father. El’e is the featured lead vocalist in the Harlem GospeLive Revue.
El’e is quick to credit her paternal grandmother and her father for her love of music. Always listening to her musical idol Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. The sound of New York’s El Barrio is in her blood.
She had her African American mother tugging at one hand and her Puerto Rican father tugging at the other. El’e’s mother made her take piano lessons and took her to hear the greats of the day like Aretha Franklin and Chaka Chan. E’le developed a unique voice, which is unparalleled in the realm of live musical performance. Her upbeat and campy style has captivated audiences all over the world.
El’e became fascinated from an early age with the New York nightlife. Her brother often dressed her older than she was and sneaked her into such clubs as the legendary Studio 54 where she performed and won a talent contest and five hundred dollars. She had become star struck seeing Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Grace Jones. Of course, she was hooked and knew music would take her wherever she desired. Joining the legendary list of stars that appeared on Amateur Night at the Apollo, she won first place. Unfortunately, her religious mother gave her the whipping of her life and prevented her from returning the next week.
After touring and performing with several jazz bands in the late 1980’s and 90’s, she became known in New York City as a “ House Music Diva”. She has performed in NYC at such clubs as Bardo’s Club Groove, Sound Factory, Birdlands, The Blue Note and did Jazz Sessions at Club Julie’s.
El’e never forgets her gospel roots. El’e always uses it to touch lives. She has traveled throughout Europe and in Asia with (S.E.T.) Super Eccentric Theater of Japan with Producer’s Disake Yamazaki, Osamu Yagihashi, and Yugi Miyake with S.E.T. Gospel for 5 years.
